Matchday 5 of the 2021/22 Champions League group stage saw AC Milan defeat Atletico Madrid 1-0 early Thursday (25/11/2021) in the Wanda Metropolitano.
Junior Messias emerged as the hero of Milan’s victory after the two teams played out a goalless draw until the second half.
Atletico Madrid now sits in fourth place in Group B after Milan’s win, while Milan moved up to third thanks to the same number of points. The three teams, along with Porto, now have a chance to advance to the knockout stage.
First Round:
Since the start of the first half, the game has been thrilling. Atletico Madrid and AC Milan fought back and forth with ferocious attacks. However, neither team has scored a goal.
Brahim Diaz and Theo Hernandez provided Milan with a mature opportunity. At the Wanda Metropolitano, however, neither of them has been able to bring the visitors to score goals.
On the whole, however, Atletico’s performance is still below par. At halftime, the score was just 0-0.
Second Round:
Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar made a threat upon his return from the changing room. Fortunately, Ciprian Tatarusanu is still able to secure the shot delivered by the Frenchman.
When Tiemoue Bakayoko attempted to finish Junior Messias’ attack, Milan retaliated. Although Stefan Savic was saved, he was struck by his shot.
After Franck Kessie’s cross, Messias manufactured a goal for Milan in the 87th minute, making him the match’s hero in the process. The final result of this match was a 1-0 victory for the Rossoneri.
Antoine Griezmann (Geoffrey Kondogbia 81′), Thomas Lemar (Angel Correa 65′), and Luis Suarez (Matheus Cunha 77′) were all on the scoresheet for Atletico Madrid in the 3rd of their 4 match-ups against Real Madrid.
